Cartoon effect in Photoshop

on Thursday 27 June 2013
Give any photo a cartoon effect. It is very easy and can be achieved in a few short steps. Step 1 : This is the image I will turn into a cartoon image.

Step 2 : In the Layers/Channels/Paths palette drag the 'Background' to the 'New Layer' (the folded paper icon). This forms a new layer. It forms the 'Background copy' layer (see the green arrow).
Step 3 : Go to Filter>Artistic>Poster Edges and click.
Step 4 : This dialogue box opens. Click ok.
Step 5 : This is how the image now looks like.
Step 6 : Go to Image>Adjustments>Brightness Contrast
Step 7 : When the Brightness/Contrast dialogue box (above) opens set the Brightness to 10 and Contrast to 30.
Step 8 : This is how the image now looks like.

Step 9 : Go to Filter>Artistic>Cutout
Step 10 : This dialogue box opens. Click ok.
Step 11 : This is how the image now looks like.
Step 12 : Now lower the opacity in the Layers/Channels/Paths palette. I have lowered it to 67 %. But there is no hard and fast rule. It will depend on your image.

Step 13 : This is how the finished image looks like.
