Making a background in Photoshop

on Thursday 27 June 2013
Create a background using the following steps for images.

Step1 : Open a large new layer as above. Note the settings.

Step2 : Click the New Layer Button. This will make a new layer. It will not be visible.

Step3 : Click the Rectangular Marquee tool as above.

Step4 : Draw a selection by dragging the Rectangular Marque Tool as shown.

Step5 : Now click the foreground colour. It will open the Colour Picker. I have chosen a shade of yellow. Click OK

Step6 : Click the Paint Bucket Tool

Step7 : Use the Paint Bucket to colour the Selection Outline as above

Step8 : Go to Layers>Duplicate Layer. This will duplicate the yellow selection.

Step9 : Go to Edit>Copy Then Edit>Paste. This will create exact copies of the stripes. Just move them with the Move Tool to place them where you want to.

Step10 : You can see from above how you should use Copy and Paste Command. The Paste Command is shown here. Before the Paste command is Copy Merged and Copy. With Copy you copy the selection and use the Paste command to paste it back.

Step11 : This is how the stripes look after the Copy and Paste. Notice that each Copy is a copy of the original layer. See the Layers Pallete (Yellow Arrow). The layers increase as you copy and paste.

Step12 : Now go to Layer>Duplicate Layer. With this we will create Horizontal Stripes.

Step13: Go to Edit>Transform>Rotate 90 degrees CW

Step14 : Now we have a horizontal Layer. Drag the corners till they reach the edge of document.
Go to Layer>Duplicate Layer. This will copy the layer. Now Copy and Paste the new layer a number of times.

Step15 : This will how it will look now. (Above)

Step16 : Now go to the Layers Pallete at the right. Click on the first stripe. This will now become the active layer.

Step17 : Now Go to Layers>Layer Style>Drop Shadow. Apply Drop Shadow to each layer that you have created.

Step18 : After applying drop shadow to all the layers this is how it will look.

Step19: I have gone back to the Layers Pallete and changed the colours using the Paint Bucket. You can see from the above how this looks like. The background has been created. Save it as psd for later use.
