on Thursday 27 June 2013
I have been requested to post a tutorial on changing the color of the eyes. It is quite easy to do. It can be done in any version of Photoshop. Just follow the steps below. I will need a photo first. I will download it from
You can download high resolution, unwatermarked stock photos photos for free from this site. You only need to register.
I have downloaded this photo.

Step 1 : Click the Zoom Tool

Step 2 : Look at the top panel. The magnifying glass icons with the plus and minus signs are for zooming in or out. You can also use the shortcut of the bracket [ ] keys for zooming in or out.

Step 3 : I have zoomed into photo so I can see the eyes clearly.
Step 4 : I have zoomed in even more. You need to see what you are doing clearly.
Step 5 : Use the Magnetic Lasso Tool to make a selection.
Step 6 : Or the Pen Tool.

Step 7 : I am using the Magnetic Lasso to make the selection.
Step 8 : On the top panel set the Feather to 2 pixel and check the Anti-Alias.
Step 9 : One of the eyes have been selected by the Magnetic Lasso. The advantage of zooming in on the image makes it possible to make the selection accurately.
Step 10 : Since you cannot see the other eye, look at the Navigator on the top right side. You will find a small white hand when you hover your cursor over any part of the image. Hover it over the other eye.
Step 11 : You can see the small white hand here. Look at your image as you drag.
Step 12 : The other eye is now visible.

Step 13 : Remember that the other eye has already been selected with the Magnetic Lasso. Press SHIFT and you can add to the selection i.e. you can select the other eye as well. Now both eyes are selected.
Step 14 : I have zoomed out. You can see that both eyes are selected now. Step 15 : Press CTRL+J and you will find a new layer i.e. Layer 1 in the Layers/Channels/Paths pallete. What has happened is that the selections has been copied and pasted onto Layer 1. The selection around the eyes will seem to disappear in your image.
Step 16 : CTRL+Click the layer thumbnail on Layer 1.
Step 17 : You will find that the eyes have been reselected.

Step 18 : Click the Foreground color.
Step 18 : This will bring up the Color Picker.
Step 19 : I have clicked on green from the Spectrum in the middle.
Step 20 : Click on a shade of green in the box on the left.
Step 21 : The Foreground color has changed to the color I picked.
Step 22 : Press SHIFT+F5. It will bring up the Fill dialogue box. Make sure Use is set to Foreground Color. Click ok.
Step 23 : The eyes have been filled with green. You can pick any color for the Fill.

Step 24 : In the Layers/Channels/Paths pallete lower the opacity of the layer. I have reduced it to 45 %.
Step 25 : The eyes have the right shade of green. Adjust the opacity till you are satisfied. Press CTRL+D to deselect.

Step 26 : Click the Add Layer Mask button.
Step 27 : The Layer Mask has been aded beside the layer thumbnail on Layer 1.

Step 28 : Click the Brush Tool.
Step 29 : Make sure that the Foreground Color is set to Black. You can press D on the keyboard to set it to the dafault and press X to switch between Foreground and Background Colors.

Step 30 : Zoom in on the eye and brush away to reveal the pupil and highlights. You can increase or decrease the brush tip with the bracket [ ] keys.
