Graphics 2 - Adding background to graphics

on Friday 28 June 2013
After learning how to create graphics from photos, learn how to add a background to it. The earlier tutorial is here. I have shown how to create the graphics. Now I will show how you can add a background to it.

Step 1 : Click the Add New Layer button on the Layers/Channels/Paths pallette.
Step 2 : The New Layer has been formed.

Step 3 : Click the Background/Foreground colors shown above. Click the black first which is the foreground color.
Step 4 : This will bring up the Color Picker dialogue box shown above.

Step 5 : Use the cursor to click on a color. I have clicked on the green. Notice that the cursor turns into an 'eyedropper'.

Step 6 : The color picked is shown in the color picker dialogue box as a small 'o'. See above. Click ok.

Step 7 : The foreground color has changed to the color I have 'picked'.

Step 8 : Now click on the background color which is at present white.

Step 9 : This will again bring up the color picker dialogue box.

Step 10 : Now I have used the 'eyedropper' to click on a lighter color.

Step 11 : The lighter color picked is shown in the color picker dialogue box. Click ok

Step 12 : The background color is now yellow. Follow these steps to pick Foreground/Background color from any photo.

Step 13 : Now click the Gradient Tool from the flyout.

Step 14 : Notice the gradient is also shown in the panel at the top. You can click it so see al the Gradients available. Here it is not necesary.

Step 15 : With the Gradient selected press SHIFT on your keyboard and drag up from bootom to top as shown. Keeping the SHIFT pressed will help you drag up in a straight line.

Step 16 : The Gradient now covers the lettering.
Step 17 : Go to Layer>Arrange>Send to Back.

Step 18 : This is the effect.

Step 19 : Notice that we are working on the highlighted layer. A layer which is being worked on is always highlighted. To choose a layer you have to click on it. This makes it active or ready to be edited.
That's all.
